The colour black is believed to deter the evil eye away from children. It is thought that dressing them in black, or having a piece of black cloth attached to their wrists or even applying black kohl around their eyes confuses the evil eye and steers it away from them. The use of different black materials, coupled with the weaving and braiding of soft and rough textiles, creates a form of playfulness that embodies childhood.
